Daily we are surrounded by ethical dilemmas, in both our personal and professional lives. There are times when facing ethical issues, we feel uncertain and maybe even powerless. This workshop will provide an opportunity for practitioners to revisit the definition of ethics, ethical practice, and ethical decision making.

Addressing diversity is imperative when considering ethics. The need for helper self-awareness as it relates to values, culture, and belief systems is explored. How we understand ourselves is directly correlated to how we interact with clients. Our view of 鈥渞ight鈥 and 鈥渨rong鈥 is directly correlated to our views on morality. Practitioners will engage in activities to explore values and their impact in ethical decision making.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define ethics in a professional manner using the National Association Social Workers Code of Ethics.
  • Identify the role of ethics and values in practice.
  • Understand ethical decision making.
  • Practice and implement knowledge of ethical practice through the use of case study.

This workshop is appropriate for all levels of practice in all practice settings.

Presenter: Dr. Terrilyn Hickman-Allen, L.C.S.W.
