Social Work's Scott Giacomucci Receives the 2024 Innovator鈥檚 Award

The  (ASGPP) has named Scott Giacomucci, of the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, the recipient of the 2024 Innovator鈥檚 Award at the 82nd annual conference in Los Angeles on April 4.

Established in 1994, the Innovator's Award is presented annually, when an appropriate candidate exists, to a member of the ASGPP whose work significantly and in new directions extends the applications or methods of psychodrama, sociometry and/or group psychotherapy.

Giacomucci was selected for this award for his work innovatively integrating psychodrama through practice, teaching, and writing. In 2021, he wrote Social Work, Sociometry, and Psychodrama: Experiential Approaches for Group Therapists, Community Leaders, and Social Workers, the first book integrating psychodrama with social work. In 2023, he wrote Trauma-Informed Principles in Group Therapy, Psychodrama, and Organizations: Action Methods for Leadership, the first book integrating psychodrama and trauma-informed principles.

He has presented psychodrama workshops locally and globally related to business, leadership, trauma, tattoos, social justice, spirituality, ethics, writing, and research. His has over 150 free educational videos focused on psychodrama.

Giacomucci is the director and founder of the and director of trauma services at Mirmont Treatment Center in Media, PA. He served two elected terms on ASGPP鈥檚 executive council, co-chairs ASGPP鈥檚 research committee, and is co-chief-editor of the journal. He is also co-chief-editor of the first international psychodrama book series and has published over a dozen psychodrama articles, chapters, or research studies.
