The Ministry of Education in Rome has awarded the Transnational Italian Studies Department at Bryn Mawr a grant for its cutting-edge curricular innovation in designing courses that mirror the transformation of the discipline towards a more inclusive field and to motivate and support students through mentorship programs to effectively give rise to positive changes.

"Our mission to promote and foster equal opportunities within our recent curricular redesign and change of title to Transnational Italian Studies were recognized by this very competitive award," says Roberta Ricci, professor and Chair of Italian on the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Chair in the Humanities.

The award will cover part of the salary of a faculty member in the department.

The Transnational Italian Studies Department at Bryn Mawr serves the Trico community and offers an interdisciplinary and a transnational course of study that explores the works of canonical Italian authors alongside traditionally marginalized voices, bringing together issues of gender and sexuality, language and class, race and ethnicity.
