Unity Technologies helps build 3D projects and realities across various industries but is really known as the Gaming Company, with its software being used to run games such as Pokemon Go, Nintendo, and Among Us. We believe the world is better with more creators in it, with a focus on highlighting underrepresented talent.
My job is to aid the company’s recruiting efforts through sourcing, scheduling, and handling recruiting pipelines. Currently, in the Global Information Technology Sector, we are experiencing a halt/freeze in hiring due to the general creation halt in the IT sector. These are very turbulent times for tech companies, but as an intern, I am happy to have this chance to gain meaningful insight into maneuvering this problem both internally and externally. Seeking to develop my recruiting/talent acquisition skills in the tech space, I applied to Unity because it provides the opportunity for me to evolve as a recruiter with a passion for creating spaces for underrepresented talent. Unity is very staff-oriented, so I was drawn to their efforts to promote employee wellness while focusing on giving the candidates a positive application process.
When it came to finding this internship, I would not consider my method to be ‘special’ but very overlooked and under-utilized. Using various job boards to search and apply is standard practice. In addition to that, I sent messages to recruiters of companies of my choice on LinkedIn to be visible and get maximum outreach for my CV. I think generating visibility around my skills and qualifications was very pertinent to my success at Unity. Regarding skills acquisition at Unity, I am excited to master application tracking software such as Gem, Greenhouse and Seekout. Being able to use these ATS to effectively hire and highlight quality, underrepresented talent will be very crucial to my professional development as a recruiter and talent sourcer. Moreover, using such ATS to give opportunities to underrepresented talent is a skill I would love to have to mature further because it aligns with my personal beliefs and long-term, humanitarian goals.
