Overnight acts of campus vandalism

December 10, 2024

The below email was sent to students, faculty, and staff on Dec. 10, 2024

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

Earlier this morning, areas around Erdman and Denbigh residence halls were among several spaces found to have been defaced by spray-painted graffiti.

Prior to 5:00 a.m. today, a Campus Safety officer on regular patrol disrupted individuals dressed in dark-colored clothing, and who fled the scene near Erdman. Evidence was recovered that has been collected for the investigation by Campus Safety, and all available campus technologies are currently in review for additional information.

We ask that the individual or individuals responsible come forward and take responsibility for the property damage their actions have caused. We are a community that has committed itself to certain standards of honor and integrity. Not only is vandalism against campus , but it is also a criminal offense that breaches community trust and circumvents meaningful person-to-person dialogue.

We live by an Honor Code. One obligation of that commitment is to take responsibility when community standards have been violated. We invite anyone with information about these incidents to contact Lil Burroughs, Director of Bi-College Campus Safety, at lburroughs@brynmawr.edu, call her directly at (610) 526-7911, fill out , or speak with another trusted individual in the Undergraduate College Division.

The College is committed to creating an inclusive, safe environment for students, faculty, and staff and supports the rights of all community members to express their views. However, we condemn these incidents of vandalism, which damage property, break our posting policy, and violate community standards and trust. Causing damage to our common spaces for any reason is incompatible with the spirit of mutual respect that is essential to life on our campus, and it is unacceptable.
