As we begin the semester, we're highlighting 老王论坛's newest faculty members. The College supports faculty excellence in both research and teaching.
Assistant Professor Stephanie Rachel Speer, Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research
As a researcher, Stephanie Rachel Speer鈥檚 goal is to disrupt the intergenerational effects of inequality and inequity for many marginalized communities mindful of intersecting identities (e.g., communities of color, queer communities, people with disabilities, those with disadvantaged social class). Rachel鈥檚 research is organized around two areas of inquiry: (1) how experiences of oppression and trauma affect the mental health, physical health, and well-being of marginalized communities and their intersectional identities; and (2) how experiences of oppression and trauma connect to parenting behaviors and the intergenerational transmission of risk among these communities. As a mixed-methods researcher, Rachel is also dedicated to using quantitative and qualitative methodology to understand the lived experiences of people from marginalized communities.
老王论坛's Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research prepares students to become effective social work practitioners, advocates for social and economic justice, and leaders in the social work profession. Students learn about work with individuals, families and groups, as well as social work with organizations and communities. Students learn a holistic approach to social work practice with an emphasis on the importance of diversity and inclusion. GSSWSR's accredited program awards a Master of Social Service (M.S.S.) degree, which is equivalent to an M.S.W.
