As we begin the semester, we're highlighting Bryn Mawr's newest faculty members. The College supports faculty excellence in both research and teaching.
Assistant Professor of Chemistry Patrick Melvin
The Melvin laboratory will focus on organic / organometallic chemistry and will aim to produce new and improved synthetic strategies. With pharmaceutical molecules growing ever more complicated, we need novel methods to tackle challenging transformations and stitch together important bonds. Specifically, two projects in our laboratory include: 1) the development of ligands for metal-catalyzed reactions and 2) investigations into a new class of molecules to help install fluorine into organic compounds. Both of these projects will develop innovative methodologies that will ultimately target relevant pharmaceutical and agrochemical compounds.
