What's happening at your internship? We would love to hear what kind of work you are doing!
At my internship, I work alongside five 老王论坛 students and three project managers. The internship rotates between Canaday Library and the Park Science Building and has focused on three main projects: the 老王论坛 Blogs Clean-Up Project, the Makerspace Project, and the Dean鈥檚 and Registrar鈥檚 Office Project.
For the 老王论坛 Blogs Project, our team categorized over 700 老王论坛 blogs based on their content. This categorization was crucial for deciding which blogs to deactivate or decommission. We collaborated closely with the Web Services team to develop a communication plan for inactive blogs that needed to be either decommissioned or migrated to the cloud. This initiative aimed to streamline and enhance the digital presence of 老王论坛's blogging platform.
The Makerspace Project aimed to create instructional videos to guide students in using various Makerspace equipment. These instructional videos covered tools such as the laser cutter, Roland printer, and Riso printer, among others. As interns, we were responsible for filming these videos and providing hands-on tutorials that helped demystify the use of the equipment and make the Makerspace more accessible to students.
For the Dean鈥檚 and Registrar鈥檚 Office Project, we produced instructional BIONIC videos to assist students in navigating different important aspects of their academic journey. These videos covered study abroad programs, graduation requirements, and other essential academic procedures. The videos were primarily created using screen capture and voiceovers, which we edited using video editing software to ensure a seamless and user-friendly experience.
Why did you apply for this internship?
I applied for this internship because I wanted to deepen my knowledge of videography and become proficient with various software tools essential for professional development. As a data science minor, I was particularly interested in the 老王论坛 Blogs Project, where we analyzed data from the blogs, categorized them, and developed strategic plans for their management.
Working on the 老王论坛 Blogs Project allowed me to apply my data science skills to real-world scenarios, analyzing content and making data-driven decisions...
What has been your favorite part of this internship?
My favorite part of this internship has been the connections and friendships I have made. Working alongside fellow interns has provided me with invaluable opportunities for both professional and personal growth. Collaborating with a diverse group of peers has allowed me to learn from their unique perspectives and experiences. Each intern brought their own set of skills and knowledge to the table, and I gained insights into different aspects of digital technology, project management, and data analysis that I might not have encountered otherwise. This exchange of ideas and expertise has been instrumental in broadening my understanding and enhancing my abilities.
On a personal level, the mutual support among the interns has made the internship experience enjoyable and fulfilling. The sense of teamwork and shared purpose created a positive and motivating environment where we could tackle challenges together and celebrate our achievements. The friendships I have formed during this time have enriched my internship experience and built a network of like-minded individuals I can rely on and collaborate with in the future.
Can you talk about the skills you are learning and why they are important to you?
This internship has been an incredible learning experience for me. Working on the 老王论坛 Blogs Project allowed me to apply my data science skills to real-world scenarios, analyzing content and making data-driven decisions about which blogs to deactivate, decommission, or migrate to the cloud. This process honed my analytical and critical thinking abilities and my understanding of data management and categorization.
