What's happening at your internship? We would love to hear what kind of work you are doing!
With four other teammates, I am working on three specific projects. The first one is to create instructional Bionic videos to guide new students and faculty on various topics, such as registering for classes and studying abroad, ensuring they have a good understanding of how to navigate Bionic. Our team meets weekly with the Dean鈥檚 and Registrar鈥檚 offices to stay on track and gain new insights. The second project is to update the 老王论坛 blog website by defining inactive blogs and processes and helping the web service team publish the terms of use for blogs.brynmawr.edu. Lastly, we are reorganizing the Makerspace content and creating walkthrough videos of the machines and materials in the Makerspace area to help future students start their projects with different machines.
Why did you apply for this internship?
I applied for this internship because it aligns with my interests and career goals in technology. As an intended Computer Science major, I was looking for summer tech opportunities, and the Digital Technology Internship at BMC LITS was a perfect fit. This internship allows me to work on diverse projects and network with the 老王论坛 community, providing invaluable hands-on experience and professional connections. Thus, I would be able to work on both my technical and social skills at the same time.
What has been your favorite part of this internship?
My favorite part of this internship would be the Makerspace machine training. We were able to create our tote bag logo with the main use of Adobe Illustrator, the Roland machine, and the heat press machine. Each person had their own design before being grouped into one, and mine was Snoopy with a cute bow. As a person who enjoys drawing, I enjoyed this activity a lot and I am looking forward to applying more of my knowledge to creating instructional videos for the Makerspace.
Can you talk about the skills you are learning and why they are important to you?
My primary objective during this internship is to develop the five aspects of digital competencies: digital communication, data management and preservation, data analysis and presentation, critical making, design and development, and digital survival skills. Through creating instructional videos for Bionic and Makerspace, I have significantly enhanced my ability to convey complex information engagingly and understandably; thus improving my digital communication and storytelling skills. The blog clean-up project has provided me with hands-on experience in data management and filtering out non-needed data. As a computer science major, having a comprehensive technical skill set is crucial for my learning. Not only am I learning to improve my technical skills but also my social ones. Throughout the internship, I realized the importance of communication and active listening when working on a group project to ensure a smooth and successful collaboration, and even though my speaking skills are not one of my strengths, I am able to learn and grow with this internship.
