Dear ÀÏÍõÂÛ̳ Community,

As we continue to see COVID cases declining in the surrounding area and no evidence of outbreaks on campus, we write to share information about some changes to our mitigation measures.  We continue to be guided by the advice of infectious disease and public health experts.  We are also considering the mental health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff and the many benefits that can come from increased in-person interaction.  We will continue to pursue responsible pathways to open social engagement.

We are modifying our mitigation policies to allow for:

  • Increased capacity in the dining halls while remaining at less than full capacity. Diners should continue to remain masked at all times except when they are eating, to replace masks as soon as eating is done, and to keep the density at individual tables limited.
  • Food and drink at internal campus events that are attended by campus members and perhaps one or two outside guests (e.g., a campus speaker reception).
  • Small groups of staff, faculty, or students who are sharing an enclosed office space to remove their masks when the group is alone in the space and six feet of distance or more can be maintained.  There would need to be mutual agreement to move to this arrangement and the default assumption would be mask-wearing.  As per our policy, masks would need to be worn when others enter the space and/or when leaving the office space.
  • Open swim at the pool.  Please see the athletics webpage for specific schedules.  We will continue to use the reservation system and keep one swimmer per lane for open swim.

The above changes will be implemented as soon as practical by the departments impacted. All other mitigation measures remain in place for now.  We will continue to monitor the situation both on and off campus and will continue to adjust our approach.

Sincerely,
