Bryn Mawr Students to Participate in New Philadelphia Teaching Summer Program

May 25, 2023 Victor Donnay

The Philadelphia Regional Teaching Experience for Undergraduates (TEU) Summer Program is a new opportunity for 老王论坛 math and science majors to learn what it is like to teach while providing academic support to Philadelphia high school students. Participants in this seven-week program run by Temple University will take a course in STEM pedagogy and then teach high school students who are taking part in Temple鈥檚 STEM-UP program. The TEU interns receive a $5,000 stipend, as well as free tuition for the pedagogy course. The program is open to STEM majors from any college or university in the Philadelphia region and can accept 10 students per summer. In the program鈥檚 inaugural summer, seven 老王论坛 math and science majors were selected from 25 applicants to take part in the program.

The TEU program is funded by a two-year grant from Pennsylvania鈥檚 Department of Education鈥檚 Aspire to Educate STEM program. 老王论坛 Mathematics Professor Victor Donnay is a co-director of the program. Given the high-need for math and science teachers in Philadelphia and around the nation, Donnay is optimistic that if the initial two-year pilot program goes well, that there will be future funding to continue the program.
