Biography

Janet Shapiro, MA, MSW, PhD is Dean and Professor at the GSSWSR, and the Co-Director of the Center for Child and Family Wellbeing. Her research interests focus on the translation of developmental research to applied issues of practice relevant to indicators of child and family wellbeing. Most recently, she is co-authoring the 2nd edition of "Neurobiology for Clinical Social Work: Theory and Practice".

Research and Scholarly Interests: Attachment across the lifespan, neuroscience and social work, developmental theory and developmentally informed clinical social work, refugee families, resilience.

Substantive Specialization: Developmental theory and clinical social work; application of neuroscience to social work practice, trauma informed practice and stress response systems; high risk attachments, models of resiliency and recovery.
