Effective May 15, 2017, there were changes to the student employment pay structure. The structure was created with input from many people including students, staff members, department heads, Former President Cassidy, and outside experts. The goal of this restructuring was to promote equity across campus and increasing pay for many students.

The new structure included the following changes:

  • Reduction of the number of levels from five levels to two levels. This puts most jobs at the same base level, which allows all students to start their employment at the same wage.
  • Increase in the number of pay rates within a level. This allows students to remain in a job for several years and receive a pay increase, even though responsibilities of the job have not changed substantially.

The majority of student jobs are a Level 1. Although the base rate may not increase each year, each individual student may qualify for an increase each subsequent year if they worked a minimum of 125 hours in the same position the prior year.

Level 2: Higher level of responsibility such as supervision of large groups of students, in-depth knowledge of a specific field, completed related coursework. Examples of level 2 jobs include: Undergraduate TAs, Research Assistants, Lifeguards, Student Dining Hall Managers.
