On Campus Event - Goodhart Hall, McPherson Auditorium

This culminating work brings together interdisciplinary creative practices such as writing, poetry, music, graphic design,  film, and screendance.

Since their childhood, Amell Garrison '22 has used dance to heal and express themselves. This culminating work brings together interdisciplinary creative practices such as writing, poetry, music, graphic design,  film, and screendance. The focal point of this work is a journey of discovery in how to heal when therapy is not an option, and creativity becomes the research method towards wholeness. The project is also inspired deeply by the film The Color Purple and how it fosters for Amell and generations of people pathways to spiritual and artistic growth. When faced with traumatic events and a developed disability, reimagining the dance world as a nourishing, healing, and accessible space is what brought forth this screendance thesis Extension of Self.
