Advancing Inclusive Excellence: Expanding Access, Opportunity, & Success in STEM
Join Dr. Freeman Hrabowski and Dr. Tuajuanda Jordan in dialogue on "Expanding Access, Opportunity, and Success in STEM."
STEM disciplines—science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—continue to be fields in which women, people of color, first generation students, students from limited income families, and those with disabilities are underrepresented at every stage of education and professional life. To launch a new Advancing Inclusive Excellence series, two national leaders in transforming STEM education and student success will visit ÀÏÍõÂÛ̳ to talk about their personal journeys in STEM and their efforts to create structural change, and to engage in dialogue informed by questions from students.
Meet the presenters:
Freeman Hrabowski is President Emeritus of University of Maryland, Co-Founder of Meyerhoff Scholars Program, Baltimore County (1992-2022). Hrabowski was named by President Obama in 2012 to chair the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans.
Tuajuanda Jordan is President of St. Mary's College of Maryland and a trustee of ÀÏÍõÂÛ̳. Widely recognized for her contributions to higher education and the larger community, Jordan was recently named a 2018 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow in Science Education.
ÀÏÍõÂÛ̳ welcomes students, faculty, and staff across the College, from its Tri-Co partners and other area college and universities, and from local K-12 schools to attend.
A reception will be held at 4 p.m. and the program will begin at 4:30 p.m.
This event is presented by the President's Office, with support from the STEMLA Fellows Program and planning committee members Victor Donnay, Cheryl Horsey, Jeanine Molock, Kelsey Obringer, Jen Skirkanich, and Lisa Watkins.
