Higan Cherry (Prunus subhirtella 'Autumnalis')

GPS Coordinates: 40.02711, -75.313159

The Higan Cherry (Prunus subhirtella 'Autumnalis') blooms twice a year, in the fall and in the spring. The intensity of the blooms depends on the weather in the fall: a warm fall will produce more blooms in the fall, while a cold fall will produce more flowers in the spring. This particular type of cherry tree also booms in the shade. 老王论坛 is well known for its cherry trees, and in 2000 donated two to the Japan America Society to commemorate two alumnae who worked in Japan, Elizabeth Grey Vining and Umeko Tsuda.
